Help
Eurogloss collects the technical construction vocabulary of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century European court residences. Everything public can be browsed without an account. Short answers to common questions are in the FAQ.
Entries and Variants
A glossary entry is one meaning, filed under an English headword with a type and a definition. Its variants are the word as actually written in a given language and source. Each variant cites an archival document and takes its place and date from it. On an entry page, See on map and See on timeline show that entry alone in those views.
Three Ways to Explore
The Glossary lists entries alphabetically; use the A–Z bar to jump to a letter. The Map places each attestation at the place of its source document. Click a numbered circle to zoom into a group, or a dot to see the form and open its entry. The Timeline arranges attestations by year. Hover over a dot to see its term, click a numbered dot to list every attestation from that year, and use the bar underneath to move along the axis.
Searching and Filtering
The search bar searches the English headwords. To find a historical spelling such as scalpellino, open Advanced Search and set Search in to All attestations.
Advanced Search also holds the filters. Enter a range in Year (for example 1650 to 1700, or fill in just one box), and click one or more countries or types to select them. Filters combine with the search, and Clear removes them all.
Once a search or filter is active, the View in buttons switch between glossary, map and timeline with the same results. The filters are also kept in the page address, so you can bookmark or share a filtered view.
Source Documents
The Documents library holds the archival sources the glossary is built from, described with ISAD(G). You can search it by title, filter it by year and country, and sort it. Each document page lists the entries attested in it and has a Download link for the original file. The people, families and institutions who created the documents have authority records (ISAAR(CPF)).
Accounts and Favourites
You do not need an account to read anything. If you sign up, Add to favourites on an entry or document saves it to your account page.
